ASA MADER is an American director and artist, living and working in Paris and New-York. Asa Mader studied cinema and new technologies at Brown University and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. After co-founding the highly successful NY-based digital design studio DIGITALFORM, working for several luxury fashion brands, Mader decided to focus his creative energies towards directing and his original passion: cinema. Mader's first narrative film La Maladie de la Mort, based on Marguerite Duras ' homonymous novel and starring Anna Mouglalis, premiered at the Venice Film Festival (2003).
The following year, Mader directed his first stage and multi-media performance, HEROINE, also starring Ms. Mouglalis , at the Festival of Ortigia. Mader's film practice goes from TV films, with such as Lou Doillon, to large scale video installations featuring portraits - together with war photographer James Nachtwey, or dance performances - with Sharmila Desai, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Benjamin Millepied, the latest whom he featured in two short films, together with Léa Seydoux and Mélanie Laurent. Mader's music video for Coldplay's single "Violet Hill" from the album "Viva la Vida" was nominated for Best UK Video and Best Special Effects in a Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. He is currently working on two feature films, and a music video collaboration with Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl's GOASTT project.
