TAYTU is a luxury ethical accessory label from Ethiopia, supported by The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Italian Cooperation and USAID, whose ultimate goal is to contribute to enhance the image of Ethiopia worldwide. Taytu is working with a co-op of women in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia as a way to help poor families affected by AIDS. The center is organized and funded by a group of Ethiopian restaurant owners who, last year, started a school to train women from these families in embroidery and other hand-crafts. Over 100 women have passed the course, after which they move on to become “professionals” and are able to earn a living for their families.
