Between 1854 and 1896, brothers Fausto & Felice Niccoline published "Le case ei monumenti di Pompei: disegnati e descritti," a work that aimed to illustrate all aspects of life in the ancient city of Pompeii, preserved in ash for over 1,600 years after the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In this work, they documented the buildings, frescos, and statues as well as ordinary objects using the newly introduced technique of color lithography.

Complete with essays and commentary, this reprint assembles the nearly 500 lithograph plates of the brothers' original work and not only offers an extraordinary record of the ancient city, but also its effect and influence on Western art.
